Unwanted Habits

Habits come in many forms and can range from mild discomfort to more debilitating behaviours.
It's normal for us to accept our bad habits until the cost begins to outweigh any pleasure.
That cost could be anything from time and money to discomfort or poor health.

Of course, not all habits are unwanted or bad, for example, it's certainly beneficial for us to wash regularly and clean our teeth!
However, when habits impact our daily life they can affect our stress levels and self esteem.
Some examples of habits include:

  • Nail/skin biting
  • Smoking
  • Thumb sucking
  • Teeth grinding
  • Overworking
  • Hair pulling
  • Binge drinking
  • Over eating
  • Shy bladder
  • Stuttering/Stammering
  • Bed wetting
  • Blushing
  • Overspending

The above list is by no means exhaustive.
Please feel free to contact me to discuss any symptoms or issues not mentioned here.

Having unwanted habits can often seem as if they're so ingrained in our psyche ....

That it may seem as if we can never be free from them. We all know that habits are used as a form of comfort or distraction.
Habits are negative patterns of behaviour, usually associated with anxiety, stress, boredom or tiredness. We don't want to carry out these negative behaviours, but we find ourselves doing them anyway!

Although these habits were originally used to make us feel better, at least in the short term, they actually interfere with our normal daily routines, and can often be painful (nail biting, hair pulling) or dangerous to our health (smoking, Binge drinking).

Many people think it's difficult to break an unwanted habit, but by changing the thought processes and emotions around the problem, and changing them for new, positive patterns of behaviour, bad habits can be successfully eliminated.

Hypnotherapy helps you to get right to the root cause of the habit, by identifying the Initial Sensitising Event (ISE).
This is usually something that occurred in childhood (but not always) as a subconscious distraction from something unpleasant or difficult to deal with.

The habit usually then becomes a substitute for any similar feelings of anxiety or discomfort as we continue into adulthood.
Hypnotherapy helps you to feel more calm and relaxed, enabling you to manage stress or anxiety by offering positive reinforcement and solutions to replace those old, unwanted negative habits.

As you are unique, your hypnotherapy treatment will be tailored to suit your specific needs and requirements and can therefore range from anywhere between 2 or more sessions.
This will be entirely dependent on the initial consultation. The initial consultation and treatment session will last approximately 120 minutes with further sessions lasting approximately 60 minutes.

Please see the price guide for treatment cost.
